“Dear Mr. Bowers,
During the past three years, my tenure at the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard has been nothing short of pure excitement, joy and whim.
However, I have decided to spend more time with my family and attend to health issues that have recently arisen. I am proud to have been part of such an outstanding team and I wish this organization only the finest in future endeavors.
Please accept this cake as notification that I am leaving my position with NWT on March 27.
Sincerely,
W. Neil Berrett” – Source

World of Warcraft Mountain Dew
Wednesday, March 18th, 2009 | Geek, Weird, World of Warcraft | No Comments
According to WorldOfWarcraft.com this summer we can DO THE DEW while raiding. Wait..I already do that! Alliance side gets Blue (wild fruit flavor) and Horde Red (citrus cherry flavor). This will be a limited time only flavor, so let’s hope it doesn’t taste like crap like the Halo Mountain Dew did.

Stargate Universe’s Robert Carlyle Speaks.
Wednesday, March 18th, 2009 | Geek, Sci-fi | No Comments
SciFi Wire asked Robert Carlyle (Who will play Dr. Nicholas Rush) what were going to see from the new series.
“I think this one, while it’s retaining the features that made the other ones successful, hopefully, it’s slightly different in the respect that this is about a struggle for survival. The guys, everyone’s been transferred onto this massive spaceship, the Destiny. They think it’s actually a planet, because it’s so big. The Destiny is where the story then really takes off, and it’s how these guys survive. … Simple things like life support, air … The first three episodes are called “Air,” the struggle to breathe; “Water,” that’s another title; “Fire” is another; “Earth” is another. So there’s something quite basic about it. There’s not so much, maybe, alien interaction. It’s maybe a bit more drama this time, a bit more character-driven.”
Less..Aliens? What? The provided data does not compute. Please provide new data.
Space Soap Operah? Last I checked that’s what Farscape was referred to several times. They had plenty of aliens. Speculation: The budget is low for the first season, so prosthetics and all around alien goodness isn’t in the budget? Anyone else notice as SG1 progressed we saw less alien worlds and races? Creativity dieing?
I still intend to check the show out. But part of what makes these shows fun, is the aliens. Seeing races and worlds that make you think, and sometimes inspire. The joy and wonder of it all. We will see what they come up with.
Si Fi Channel now SyFy? Huh?
Wednesday, March 18th, 2009 | Sci-fi | No Comments

No matter how you spell it, its still pronounced Si Fi. So will it still be the channel I love to have on all day long? Be it working, playing Warcraft, or just kinda chilling. Sci Fi channel is my favorite channel to watch. It’s constantly on. It’s on right now. Ghost Hunters is on. Not really a Sci Fi show, but it is a good show. So why have they changed the name?
“By changing the name to Syfy, which remains phonetically identical, the new brand broadens perceptions and embraces a wider range of current and future imagination-based entertainment beyond just the traditional sci-fi genre, including fantasy, supernatural, paranormal, reality, mystery, action and adventure. It also positions the brand for future growth by creating an ownable trademark that can travel easily with consumers across new media and nonlinear digital platforms, new international channels and extend into new business ventures.”
REALITY Oh come on. Stan Lee’s Super Hero I guess was reality TV? Can Si Fi channel properly mold into SyFy? A television network that offers predominantly Sci Fi oriented programing? Or will it turn into just another station that offers the same drama and crap everyone else does?
I guess I could start with asking, what is Sci Fi? According to Wikipedia:
“Science fiction (abbreviated SF or sci-fi with varying punctuation and capitalization) is a broad genre of fiction that often involves speculations based on current or future science or technology. Science fiction is found in books, art, television, films, games, theatre, and other media. In organizational or marketing contexts, science fiction can be synonymous with the broader definition of speculative fiction, encompassing creative works incorporating imaginative elements not found in contemporary reality; this includes fantasy, horror, and related genres.” – Sci Fi Channel
So, a reality TV show with a Sci Fi theme may work? Mystery, Action and Adventure can all fit into Sci Fi also. If the content theme is right? What constitutes Sci Fi? Again we look to Wikipidia for a clear definition:
* A setting in the future, in alternative time lines, or in a historical past that contradicts known
facts of history or the archeological record
* A setting in outer space, on other worlds, or involving aliens[4]
* Stories that involve technology or scientific principles that contradict known laws of nature[5]
* Stories that involve discovery or application of new scientific principles, such as time travel or
psionics, or new technology, such as nanotechnology, faster-than-light travel or robots, or of
new and different political or social systems (e.g. a dystopia)
Hmmmm
“Syfy more clearly captures the mainstream appeal of the world’s biggest entertainment category, and reflects the network’s ongoing strategy to create programming that’s more accessible and relatable to new audiences. Syfy will continue to celebrate the traditional roots of the genre, while opening the brand to accommodate a broader range of imagination-based entertainment.” – Sci Fi Channel
I guess i’l keep an open mind about this. Here’s hoping this doesn’t ruin the best station available for anything and everything to do with Si Fi.
This change takes place in June.

Hobbits to Isengard? He’ll be back, and more Sci-Fi goodness!

Where do I start?
Christian Bale out, he wont be playing Batman in the next edition. Oh good, I can’t take more of that..yelling? What was that? No word on if Cher will play Catwoman. THAT’S RIGHT. If you didn’t know she is/was being considered for the role. They were thinking kind of an aging vamp kind of thing.
Rebecca Romijn has been cast for the Eastwick pilot. She will play Roxie, the lead character on Eastwick. Er uh..wha? No Alexandra, Jane or Sukie? Is this going to be like I was speculating before? Different set of girls leaving it open for guest spots by Cher, Susan Sarandon or Michelle Pfeiffer? Hmmm?
‘Star Wars’ Live-Action TV series casting is underway! Light sabers ahoy! “According to Lucas, the show will focus on minor characters from the saga and be set in the time period between “Revenge of the Sith” (Episode III) and the original “Star Wars” (Episode IV). The action will follow the Rebel Alliance as it slowly gains strength against the Empire. There will be Stormtroopers, but no Jedi or Darth Vader will appear on screen. As he did with the “Clone Wars” series, Lucas will write and shoot an entire year’s worth of episodes before looking for a cable channel on which to air the series.” – MTV Movie Blogs NO JEDI WITH LIGHT SABERS? Ok, not worth watching
Sean Astin (Samwise Gamgee) Has said he is on board for an appearance in the upcoming Hobbit movies. But his character wasn’t in the books. Who know Astin, maybe good ol’ Sam can start the first movie off by telling Bilbo’s story to his children. At the end, he could stop and tell them it’s time to go to bed. The next day the kids insist he finish the story, intro for the second movie. There ya go!
Arnold Schwarzenegger makes a Cameo in the new Terminator Salvation bu according to Arnoldfans.com – The governator’s role is being hyped up to be more then it is for publicity.
Johnny Depp’s Mad Hatter???

“We’re going to find Riddick alone for the first part of the movie, barely alive, surrounded by carnivorous monsters who are trying to eat him,” Diesel said in response to a question from SCI FI Wire. “So you’ll see a futuristic Rambo-esque Riddick trying to survive.” – Vin Diesel. Thank you Vin for confirming that we get to see another installment to the story of Riddick. Thank you also for letting me know the first half of the movie sounds..hmm I don’t know.
And why not..
