R2-D2 and C-3PO in anti-smoking commercial.

In 1981 R2-D2 and C-3PO teamed up with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to deliver “A Message From a Distant Galaxy Far, Far Away.”
C-3PO lets R2 know smoking is bad for your heart. What does he get in return? The mouthie lil bot reminds him he doesn’t have a heart. Ouch!
The Karate Kid – Remake with Jaden Smith coming in 2010.

“12-year-old Dre Parker (Smith) could’ve been the most popular kid in Detroit, but his mother’s (Henson) latest career move has landed him in China. Dre immediately falls for his classmate Mei Ying — and the feeling is mutual — but cultural differences make such a friendship impossible. Even worse, Dre’s feelings make an enemy of the class bully, Cheng. In the land of kung fu, Dre knows only a little karate, and Cheng puts “the karate kid” on the floor with ease. With no friends in a strange land, Dre has nowhere to turn but maintenance man Mr. Han (Chan), who is secretly a master of kung fu. As Han teaches Dre that kung fu is not about punches and parries, but maturity and calm, Dre realizes that facing down the bullies will be the fight of his life.” – IMDB
So to break it down: We have a a 12 year old rather then a 16 year old. Matter a fact most of the characters are now 12ish. The ‘Karate Kid’ is in Beijing, China rather then Reseda, California. Theres a girl involved, but the question I ask. Does a 12 year old boy need to go through all this for a 12 year old girl? Part of the original movie there was always this undertone of danger, as Karate can kill. 12 year old’s possibly killing 12 year old’s on the play ground? Eh.
Over all it seems like the story is a stand alone “remake”. Some elements from original have been ‘borrowed’ otherwise it looks to be it’s own story. Kinda like “The Next Karate Kid” with Hilary Swank. Except this movie might see sequels with Jaden’s Daddy, Will Smith producing the movie.
The thing that got me the most, see I watched the trailer three times. And every time I seen skinny Jaden Smith working his moves and making a comment all chill. I thought of Riley Freeman from The Boondocks.

X-Men: First Class Origins, more X-Men movies to come.
Friday, December 18th, 2009 | Movies, Sci-fi | No Comments

Bryan Singer signs on for the next X-Men Movie, First Class Origins. The movie will be about the formation of the Xavier Institute.
“This is the formative years of Xavier and Magneto, and the formation of the school and where [their] relationship took a wrong turn. There is a romantic element, and some of the mutants from X-Men will figure into the plot, though I don’t want to say which ones. There will be a lot of new mutants and a great villain.” Bryan Singer, Variety
When they say “new mutants” im guessing they mean “old” favorites but new to the movies? The movie has potential to give us a glimpse into how each major player entered into the X-Men.
A question remains, what happened to X-Men 4? Future X-Men movies, what are we looking at?

Syfy renews the Eli Sho- er.. Stargate Universe
Wednesday, December 16th, 2009 | Sci-fi, Television | No Comments
Stargate Universe was renewed for 20 episodes to air in fall of 2010.
The show originally was to have no alien races aside from minor ones. So far we’ve seen living sand and killer worms. The season finale showed us an alien ship, leading to the introduction of humanoid aliens. They’re not the typical Stargate alien bad guys, and will be more like a District 9 alien.
Who cares? Whats going to happen to Eli??

Good going Burger King. You have provided some of the best greeting cards for this season! In a brilliant marketing move (in my opinion anyway) consumers can go online and purchase these cards good for buying a dollar double cheese burger. Christmas Lights Guitar Hero
Monday, December 14th, 2009 | Geek, Video Game | 1 Comment

Ric Turner, a former Disney ‘imagineer’ and special effects specialist, turned his yard into a game of Guitar Hero, built out of 21,268 lights and LEDs, that plays Eric Johnson’s “Cliffs of Dover.” – Source
Christmas Light Hero is using 7 light controllers from Light-O-Rama built from kits to control 21,268 lights and LEDs. Each controller has 16 outputs and 2-3 TTL level control inputs that are used by the game system to fire different programmed light sequences depending on what happens in the game. It relies on the fact that the game sequence is very consistent. If the game and the lighting sequences start together, they will stay in very good sync through the length of the song. The light program allows branching and overlays for fail, star power and “ready.” I have some ideas to automate the initial show/game sync, but for now you have to push doorbell buttons at the right moments.
To program the show a video recording was made of a perfect round of Guitar Hero playing Eric Johnson’s Cliffs of Dover. The timing of all the dots and the light show choreography follow that video.
When you play, you watch only the Christmas lights, but the audio you hear is from the Wii, so your flubs are broadcast for all to hear (people in cars can tune 99.1 and crank it up as loud as they want.) When we are not playing, a separate version of the program that has the audio from the recorded game plays with the lights as a loop. The YouTube video also has this audio, (because I forgot to record the direct audio when I was shooting the documentation, and the camcorder did not pick it up very well.)
A video screen is on the driveway showing the game video, but if you want to be on the high score list you have to make it through the whole game only watching the Christmas Lights. Even though the game is in “easy” mode, the lights don’t provide the same timing detail as the game does, so it is much harder. Even expert Guitar Hero players have a hard time with the lights, and nobody has made it through without errors (yet). - Source

I LOVE IT. As someone who’s entire house is decorated from things that were made in the 1950’s to early 70’s. I love it and want it. Sadly, it’s just a design prototype from Dave Schultze.
The design features an antique type writer inspired keyboard, retro screen and old fashioned turn on switch. I would love one of these. If it ever becomes real, it better come in purple!
