BBC’s Demons – Van Helsing has a great-great grandson!
Thursday, January 28th, 2010 | Sci-fi, Television | No Comments

It seems BBC programing makes up a good chunk of what I’m watching these days. The latest, Demons.
Demons is about Luke Rutherford. Average teenager. Plays video games, goes to high school, has a bit of an attitude and he’s also the last Van Helsing. However, Luke just found this out.
Rupert Galvin, best friend to Luke’s father who died fifteen years prior- comes along and informs him of the truth. Luke is the great-great grandson of Abraham Van Helsing. As in Bram Stoker(’s Dracula) whom according to the series’ story- stole Van Helsing’s name and story.
Luke then starts on the journey of training and learning about threats a Van Helsing deals with. He gets help from his best friend Ruby and a woman named Mina, who has a few interesting things to her story. Such as her last name is Harker. She is -the- Mina Harker from Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
Demons, or “Half-Lives” have levels to label their strengths. The higher the level, the smarter the demon is and the harder it is to kill. Like..in a video game. Who knew?
Unfortunately were only going to get one series (What they call a season, in case you didn’t know) of six episodes. In Jan 2009 Philip Glenister who plays Galvin said he would not return to the show, which put doubt on it’s future. Then in June 2009, ITV announced they would not be making a second series.
If you haven’t seen it, I recommend it. It really is a shame there will only be 6 episodes. The plot has so much potential.

LG Serie 1 – Retro Classic TV
Tuesday, January 26th, 2010 | Geek, Painted Purple | 1 Comment

I love when retro is in, as I love retro. I prefer the real deal. I would rather buy a coffee table or piece of home decor that was made in lets say, the 50’s rather then buy a reproduction. However now and then something retro comes out that makes me drool. This is one of those things. To bad its only available in Korea and costs 249,000 KRW (around $216 USD). It would probably cost even more to ship it over here.
The TV features a 14-inch screen, rabbit-ear antennae, chrome legs, an old fashioned knobs to change the channel and adjust the volume. No worries, if charm of flipping through channels the old way wears of, it comes with a wireless remote.
Now here is the coolest part. You can chose from three different color modes. Color, black & white or sepia tone.

Fox develops U.S. Torchwood – Welcome back Jack?
Sunday, January 24th, 2010 | Sci-fi | 1 Comment

Firefly
Dollhouse
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
All good shows (Well I heard Terminator was kinda bad, but it had a fan base.) All on Fox. All canceled. Would an Americanized version of Torchwood end up in the can as well?
Russell T Davies is writing the script for the pilot. Word is, John Barrowman aka Captain Jack Harkness may star.
“Unlike U.S. adaptations that have gone awry, Torchwood fans can take comfort that the original producing team is on board. In addition to Davies, exec producers include Davies’ producing partner Julie Gardner (former head of drama at BBC Wales for the show’s first season) and Jane Tranter (another BBC vet, now exec VP programming and production at BBC Worldwide Prods. in the U.S.).Also, some of the current cast—most likely John Barrowman, who plays the immortal Capt. Jack Harkness—might star if Fox orders Torchwood to pilot.
As for the new show’s plot, the U.S. version will contain a global story line compared to the more localized sensibility of the first two BBC seasons. ” – The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed
The potential:
If you saw “Children of Earth” you know Captain Jack left earth at the end. He was last seen at the end of the last Doctor Who special (With David Tennant) “End of Time”. Alive and well in what looked like an intergalactic bar. He could come back to Earth and start up a Torchwood branch in the good old USA. A “global story line” opens it up for so much potential in plots and story.
But wait, isn’t there going to be a new season of Torchwood on BBC1? Back in July SIFi Wire posted an interview with John Barrowman. At the end he explained the show was going to be reviewed and season four could happen.
In November Davies told TV Guide “The recession has hit British television, but fingers crossed, it will be a go. We expect things to start to move in January. We’ve got great ideas for the show. I think there’s a further lease on life for many years to come, but certainly for a [fourth season]”
Could we see Jack on two Series? It’s possible!
The grey area:
Will Davies and the BBC crew be able to properly Americanize the show so it appeals to the wider audience without “watering” it down or letting Fox strong arm them into doing what Fox thinks is entertainment?
Is American TV ready for a prime time show that features a gay alien who saves the world (Or greater city area) from alien or other paranormal threats?
What I hope Demand:
What I demand they bring to the American show, or even season four if it goes down…

Transformers 3 – Less explosions?
Saturday, January 16th, 2010 | Movies, Sci-fi | No Comments

Pretty much everyone at this point has seen the two Transformers movies based off the Hasbro toys and cartoon from the 80s. (If you haven’t, go see it you noob.)
The first one was good. It told a story from start to finish. Giant robots and explosions is always fun.
The second one was good. It told a story from start to finish. Even though it felt very repeatish of the first movie’s theme with a few things tossed in. “A few things” as in more explosions, robots and Megan Fox’s boobs bouncing around every-time she was running away from an explosion. You would think she could afford a support bra. (Yaya I know it was done on purpose for sex appeal.)
Don’t read this wrong. I loved the movies, they were great. But it felt to me like there was so much story to be told that was left out for explosions.
Feel the same way? Great! Here is some new that may interest you.
Michael Bay is in the pre-production stages of producing the next Transformers movie. The movie is slated to come out in summer of 2011. Bay told Los Angeles Times’ Heat Vision Blog the next movie “won’t be as robot-heavy and there will be fewer explosions.” “It gets much more into the robot character. The last time you kind of met a few of the robots; this time you’re gonna get a much cooler landscape.”

Spider-Man 4 – Raimi and Maguire out. Story Reboot Incoming.
Monday, January 11th, 2010 | Movies, Sci-fi | No Comments

With script delays and original cast members committed, the axe has fallen on Spider-Man 4. With it goes the plans for the 5th and 6th movie that scripts were being written for.
Things looked good for the fourth installment of the movie franchise. This was despite conflict between Raimi and Sony on which villains should be featured.
As of December 8, 2009, names like Anne Hathaway and John Malkovich were attached to the film. John Malkovich was in negotiations to play Vulture, and that Anne Hathaway would play Felicia Hardy. Though Hardy would not have transformed into the Black Cat, as in the comics. Instead, Raimi’s Felicia was expected to become a brand-new superpowered figure called the Vulturess.
As of January 5, 2010, Anne Hathaway had been dropped from the film, while John Malkovich confirmed that he will be playing Vulture in the film.
Today it was announced that Spider-Mand 4 had been canceled.
Nikki Finke’s Deadline Hollywood is now reporting that director Sam Raimi and his entire cast, led by Tobey Maguire, have dropped out. The Spider-Man movie franchise will be rebooted starting in 2012 with a whole new director and cast.
The new direction:
“Peter Parker is going back to high school when the next Spider-Man hits theaters in the summer of 2012.
Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios announced today they are moving forward with a film based on a script by James Vanderbilt that focuses on a teenager grappling with both contemporary human problems and amazing super-human crises.” – Sony Pictures
Seeming to still be on track is the Venom movie due in 2012. This movie will “spin off” of the first three Spider-Man movies. However, Venom will be portrayed as an ati-hero.
