Video game inspired alcoholic drinks.

Monday, May 3rd, 2010 | Geek, Videos, Weird | No Comments

T-Virus (Resident Evil Shot)

Ingredients:
3/4 shot Silver Rum
1/4 shot Everclear
1 Blue Twizzler

Directions: Wind a blue Twizzler around a tall double shot glass. It should stick to the sides of the glass. Pour in the silver rum and top with the Everclear. Drink, then eat the Twizzler for a sweet and tangy aftertaste. You will have to fish out the Twizzler with your finger after you drink, as it will still be stuck to the side of the shot glass.

Metroid (Metroid Cocktail)

Ingredients:

1/2 shot Bacardi Big Apple Rum
1/2 shot Coconut Rum
1/2 glass Kiwi Strawberry Minute Maid (or Kool-Aid)
A little less than 1/2 a glass Sprite
3 Strawberries

Directions: Shake the two rums and Kiwi Strawberry Minute Maid and pour into a lowball glass. Add the Sprite for a bit of flavor and carbonation. Drop in three strawberries as a garnish. If you choose, you can use your ice beam freezer to cool the alcohol before you make the drink.

What do you get when you mix video games and a love of alcohol? Mixed video game drinks and specialty shots. Other drinks that stand out (to me anyway) would be Big-Bang Blast (Mega Man cocktail), Kungaloosh (World of Warcraft) and Golden Chocobo (Final Fantasy Cocktail) – all over at The Drunken Moogle.

Why Facebook won’t charge you.

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010 | Geek, General | No Comments

Like anyone on Facebook, I’m sure you have seen panic pages and spam about Facebook is going to start charging. I don’t think to many people stop and think when they see this. Well, ok.. they think, but not about the right things. I’m pretty sure they think ‘I’m not paying!’. Well they would be right, you wont. And not because you joined some group or liked a page. Read on to see why Facebook  will never start charging for their service.

Faceboook is a private company, and rather tight lipped about how much money they are making. According to Inside Facebook, revenues likely reached between $600 million and $700 million for 2009. They don’t need a monthly fee from you.

Where did this money come from?

I will start simple. Advertisements. Any time you see an ad, Facebook gets paid. Anytime you click on, Facebook gets paid. That’s the same with any web site that has ads on it. When you see “Steve is a fan of Mandy Madrox” (Shoosh!) Facebook does not get paid for you to view it or click it. (This is when they random in what your friends are fans of for filler.)  How ever they would get paid if someone with a fan page decided to buy advertising to show that ad to all of Facebook.

Virtual goods, where you buy credits to get a ‘virtual gift’ for your friend and send it to them. I never have, have you?

Games. Companies like Zynga pay Facebook to promote and display the games we love to play. Look at this URL carefully. http://apps.facebook.com/onthefarm/index.php When you load this URL, Farmville loads up. A common assumption is that Facebook has these games on their servers. They don’t. This page has several lines of code that call up the game from Zynga’s servers. So the page you load it self, is on Facebook’s servers, and Zynga paid for it to be set up like this. They pay for the entire integration of their games into the Facebook site. This applies to any games your playing. The developing game company has paid Facebook.

Why do they pay? Ever buy Farmville cash or gold? According to this web site, Zynga made $250 million in gross revenues in 2009.

Any company that has service integrated into Facebook. Paid.

Now before you start to think all this money goes into Facebook’s creator’s pockets. Keep in mind, Facebook has offices in Palo Alto, California, Dublin, Ireland (international headquarters for Europe, Africa, Middle East) Seoul, and South Korea (international headquarters for Asia). They have 1200+ employees. According to , datacenterknowledge.com Facebook has 30,000 servers (As of 2009) supporting its operations. All of this, do I really need to say this? Costs them money.

Oh no! I’m out of anti-gravity solution! – Brooklyn Superhero Supply Co.

Thursday, April 8th, 2010 | Geek | No Comments

You can buy everything at Brooklyn Superhero Supply Co.

Capes, tights, secret identities, costume supplies, secret lair equipment, crime fighting gadgets and so on and so on. Everything you need to be a Superhero and then some.

Is it real? YES! You place an order, and you get the supplies. Well..Most of it is real, I don’t think you can order the Matter Transformer with the $12000000.00 price tag for example. But everything else is real. Even the anti-gravity solution! When liquid products arrive, there will be information explaining whats really in the bottles. The site assures that all materials are safe.

All the profits from purchases go to 826NYC.

826NYC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6-18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write.

Brilliant. Simply brilliant. What a creative way to make money for an organization dedicated to supporting kids being creative in writing.

Battlestar Galactica – The Street Legal Viper

Thursday, April 8th, 2010 | Geek | No Comments

Say your a fan of anything. Music, a movie or tv show. You buy posters, t-shirts and other collectibles. Some people like to get their cars involved. If you Google lets say, Starwars Car. You’l find a lot of photos of people’s cars painted to look like the X or A wing fighter. Some people have put R2-D2 on the roof or trunk of their car.

But this man, has put all other fan cars to shame!

The front end is off of an old postal Jeep. It has chevy small block V8 engine. It seats one person and has a cassette deck. No A/C.

The guy is a big fan of the original BSG. Gee we couldn’t tell :P

Life is a song, so is your web site with CodeOrgan

Monday, February 22nd, 2010 | Geek | 1 Comment

What is Code Organ?

The Code Organ analyzes the ‘body’ content of any web page and translates that content into music. The Codeorgan uses a complex algorithm to define the key, synth style and drum pattern most appropriate to the page content.

Firstly, the Code Organ scans the page contents and removes all characters not found in the musical scale (A to G), and then analyzes the remaining characters to find the most commonly used “note”. If this is an even number the page is translated to the major pentatonic scale of that particular note, it becomes minor if there is an uneven number.

Secondly, The Code Organ defines which synthesizers to use. This is based on the total number of characters used on the web page – There are currently 10 synthesizer effects and the one that is picked based upon the percentage of content.

Lastly, The Core Organ selects a drum loop based upon the ratio of characters on the page versus the number of characters that are actually music notes – There are currently 10 different drum loops to pick from.

TRANSLATION:

The web site takes a URL that you provide. It scans it. It matches the text characters to a music scale, cuts out the characters that doesn’t match to a musical note. Takes what’s left, lines it up, processes a mathematical equation that would make Einstein go “huh?”  and then produced music with several pre-recorded looped beats.

Try it out here: www.codeorgan.com

LG Serie 1 – Retro Classic TV

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010 | Geek, Painted Purple | 1 Comment

I love when retro is in, as I love retro. I prefer the real deal. I would rather buy a coffee table or piece of home decor that was made in lets say, the 50′s rather then buy a reproduction.  However now and then something retro comes out that makes me drool. This is one of those things. To bad its only available in Korea and costs 249,000 KRW (around $216 USD). It would probably cost even more to ship it over here.

The TV features a 14-inch screen, rabbit-ear antennae, chrome legs, an old fashioned knobs to change the channel and adjust the volume. No worries, if charm of flipping through channels the old way wears of, it comes with a wireless remote.

Now here is the coolest part. You can chose from three different color modes.  Color, black & white or sepia tone.
