Thoughts on Heroes Volume 5 – Redemption
Saturday, February 13th, 2010 | Sci-fi, Television | No Comments

Save the cheerleader save the world…or DOOM IT!! Claire, whatever have you done? Saved the show? Saved the world? Or doomed both? Read on folks!
Volume 5 – Redemption not only was about characters finding redemption, it was also about the series finding redemption. Did they earn it? With Seasons three and four having failing to live up to the charm and wonder of the shadow and characters that season one delivered. Season 5 had a lot to make up for, and fast.
To start, Nathan. Talk about beating a dead horse. The character’s fate has been in the balance at the end of -every- season to date. Thank goodness that ass is dead.
Claire and Grechen kiss, thumbs down. Them playing rock band, thumbs up. Me being left with the impression Claire is going lesbian for Grechen, thumbs down.
Hiro and Ando’s adventures through out the season? DOUBLE THUMBS UP. I enjoyed every moment of Hiro’s story this season. Even though it was a little sad to see Hiro and Charlie had to part ways the way they did. The scenes of scrambled brains Hiro over shadowed that. Hiro has always made the shadow for me. Him and Sylar. But its good to see other characters coming into their own.
I didn’t like Emma. Something about her just didn’t click with me. The concept was good. A woman who is deaf, but could -see- sounds and control it to either draw people in, or pull like a sonic blast and direct it at someone. However, I hope this is a character we don’t see again, and remains a character exclusive to this season.
The Carnival? Very well done. From start to finish the concept was brilliant. Th
is group of people just minding their own business. They made a living together, as a family and community of people with different abilities. As Joseph had honest intentions, good intentions- his brother Samuel might have too, but he went on the wrong way to get his goals and in the end was consumed by obsession.
Which brings us back to CLAIRE. Oh Claire what have you done? You did so much this season. Your most likely turning into a lesbian. I guess kissing psycho serial killers does that? BUT WAIT. He has found redemption. (Psst. He’s already watched you sleep through your bedroom window. Hint hint nudge nudge! Why not date a man who can shape shift into..say..Johnny Depp??)
So much has happened this season, all decent to brilliant. But with Claire’s attempt number…well..she lost count. Could this have saved Heroes or doomed it to a last season? Rating have dropped dramatically when this last set of six episodes started to air. So will “A Brave New World” present us with a brave new chance?
The pros and cons of Claire’s actions.
Pro- No more hiding. People like Peter who have hidden using their abilities to lets say, get to an accident scene faster? Can now do so without the risk of accusations that they caused the accidents to happen for the fame and glory. People with abilities that can -help- people can now do so. Wheres that guy from the park that can make plants grow? Send him to starving counties and grow some food! End world hunger! This puts a whole new meaning to “Save the Cheerleader, save the word”
Con- No more hiding. People with abilities that could be seen as dangerous, could be subjected to any number of things. Really, anyone with an ability. X-men showed us that already. Once word reaches public eye, things will be split in several directions. People who will fear, people who wont, and people who will want to exploit.
Pro- We get to see the story unfold into a new direction.
Con- We risk seeing to much political crap and debate over the topic of people with abilities.
Pro- If season 6 is made, and flops horribly. We can just have Hiro pop back in time, save the Cheerleader from jumping in front of all the reporters thus saving the world again and the series can end with Claire going home and finding Patrick Duffy in her shower.
Con- Patrick Duffy would probably do it for the laughs. -.-
BBC’s Demons – Van Helsing has a great-great grandson!
Thursday, January 28th, 2010 | Sci-fi, Television | No Comments

It seems BBC programing makes up a good chunk of what I’m watching these days. The latest, Demons.
Demons is about Luke Rutherford. Average teenager. Plays video games, goes to high school, has a bit of an attitude and he’s also the last Van Helsing. However, Luke just found this out.
Rupert Galvin, best friend to Luke’s father who died fifteen years prior- comes along and informs him of the truth. Luke is the great-great grandson of Abraham Van Helsing. As in Bram Stoker(’s Dracula) whom according to the series’ story- stole Van Helsing’s name and story.
Luke then starts on the journey of training and learning about threats a Van Helsing deals with. He gets help from his best friend Ruby and a woman named Mina, who has a few interesting things to her story. Such as her last name is Harker. She is -the- Mina Harker from Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
Demons, or “Half-Lives” have levels to label their strengths. The higher the level, the smarter the demon is and the harder it is to kill. Like..in a video game. Who knew?
Unfortunately were only going to get one series (What they call a season, in case you didn’t know) of six episodes. In Jan 2009 Philip Glenister who plays Galvin said he would not return to the show, which put doubt on it’s future. Then in June 2009, ITV announced they would not be making a second series.
If you haven’t seen it, I recommend it. It really is a shame there will only be 6 episodes. The plot has so much potential.

Syfy renews the Eli Sho- er.. Stargate Universe
Wednesday, December 16th, 2009 | Sci-fi, Television | No Comments
Stargate Universe was renewed for 20 episodes to air in fall of 2010.
The show originally was to have no alien races aside from minor ones. So far we’ve seen living sand and killer worms. The season finale showed us an alien ship, leading to the introduction of humanoid aliens. They’re not the typical Stargate alien bad guys, and will be more like a District 9 alien.
Who cares? Whats going to happen to Eli??
Wonder Twins land on Smallville.
Sunday, November 15th, 2009 | Sci-fi, Television | No Comments
The watch tower’s roster is filling fast. Smallville has seen such favorites as Aquaman and references t good ol’ Bruce Wayne. Green Arrow is a regular now and Supergirl was around and about for a season. Are we gearing up for a Justice League series when Clark finally puts on his red cape and flies off? It would certainly seem so.
Last nights Smallville was enjoyable to me. As annoying some fans would find this, (Or some may have been clueless as to who they were.) I couldn’t stop giggling. So who are the Wonder Twins? Aliens my dear Wattson, aliens!
The Wonder Twins, Zan and Jayna are alien teenagers that were introduced along side their blue alien Monkey Gleek on the cartoon Super Friends (Character appeared 1977-1986). They fought along side Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Superman. They later appeared in Extreme Justice league comics and then Justice League Unlimited. (Slightly changed concept, but it was them.)
We see where this is going?
Smallville’s introduction was in my opinion? Well done. The dialog from those two was as cheesie as the old cartoon. Which to me? Is perfect. I love Zan’s comment that he didn’t think anyone would believe they were Swedish exchange students. That blue monkey? Would have been a little much for what Smallville is. Having the cartoon version of Gleek to Jayna’s phone was the perfect touch to.
Will we see them again next season? I kinda hope so. If anything, more super cards are being introduced for later epic battles, or as I speculate every time someone makes a clear reference, Justice League live action anyone?
More information on the Wonder Twins in their original dorky glory can be found here
