John Lennon’s toilet sells for $14,740 at auction
Monday, August 30th, 2010 | Weird | No Comments

What?!?!? I’m sorry..WHAT?!?! $14,740 for a toilet John Lennon used? I have his tooth brush! Gimme 500 bucks!
“Lennon, who was murdered in New York in 1980, had the porcelain lavatory removed from Tittenhurst Park in Berkshire, southern England, where he lived from 1969 to 1971, and replaced with a new one.
The builders who took away the white and blue lavatory were told to “put some flowers in it or something,” according to the auction catalog.
Builder John Hancock stored it in his shed for 40 years until he died recently and the lavatory was sent for sale, British media reports said.
The toilet was among Beatles memorabilia sold at auction as part of the Beatle week festival in Liverpool, the group’s native city in northwest England. The pre-auction estimate was 750 to 1,000 pounds.” – Source
I-Dosing – What?
Wednesday, July 21st, 2010 | Weird | No Comments
It’s 2010, many imagined by now we would have many advanced things. Flying fuel efficient cars, the end of world hunger, and maybe even world peace? The cure to all disease? We have one thing now that I don’t think the scientists of ‘yesterday’ hand in mind, digital drugs.
Like something out of a Sci-Fi story, kids are getting “high” off music. Or should I say, as the web sites pitch it, they can buy “doses” and download them to their i-pods and computers.
When I saw one my friends post to an article on facebook about this. To be honest, I thought it was a mistake. Maybe the person writing the article saw a few youtube skits and ran with it. The screen caps the article posted from videos on youtube of kids that recorded their experience…well..it didn’t look like ‘fun’ to me. Heck one looked a little funny or staged. So I did some investigating. It’s real.
I found several articles and sites with information about I-Dosing. It also wasn’t hard to find a web site selling I-Doses. The one I visited claims you can buy “The highest quality exotic bud, mood enhancement pills and legal hashish.”
All our favorite drugs that came out of the 60′s (and then all the dumb ones that came after) now available in digital form. To be taken in via sound files. The question is, does it work?
These kids seem to be reacting on some level. But, are they reacting because the variation in pitch and sound is stimulating the same areas of the brain as the drug the music is supposed mimic? Are they reacting because they are psychologically convinced they should? (Ever heard someone say, you can convince yourself your sick?) Or are they faking it for the attention?
Could be all of the above.
Ever hear of the “Hemi Sync Program” from the Monroe Institute?
Monroe indicated that the technique synchronizes the two hemispheres of one’s brain, thereby creating a ‘frequency-following response’ designed to evoke certain effects. Hemi-sync has been used for many purposes, including relaxation and sleep induction, learning and memory aids, helping those with physical and mental difficulties, and reaching altered states of consciousness through the use of sound. – Wiki
This all sounds crazy and dangerous to me. Its something that should be left to being Sci-Fi. Ever seen Warehouse 13? They covered this in one of their episodes. There was a record that when played with an echo, reached out and touched your synapses and made you feel calm, relaxed and loved. While people were standing there drugged out like hippies in a commune, banks were being robbed.
This makes one think. Does it not?

Stop calling Unicorn ‘The Other White Meat’ guys!
Monday, June 21st, 2010 | Weird | 1 Comment

Everyone likes a good April Fools joke. A little prank here and there to make everyone laugh. Web sites are no stranger to taking part in this tradition. Which brings us to Unicorn Meat! An April Fools joke presented by ThinkGeek.com which offered viewers the chance to purchase processed unicorn meat, right down to the sparkles. They claimed it was “the other white meat”
However, someone didn’t get that. The web site recieved a cease and desist from lawyers representing The National Pork Board. This order explained that the slogan “the other white meat” could not be used to sell ThinkGeek’s unicorn meat. ThinkGeek of coarse gave them a call..well.. straight from their web site:
We’d like to publicly apologize to the NPB for the confusion over unicorn and pork–and for their awkward extended pause on the phone after we had explained our unicorn meat doesn’t actually exist.

Want a pet tiger? Panda? Chinese trend makes it so!
Monday, June 14th, 2010 | Weird | No Comments

I read about the panda’s some time ago. The dye is harmless and the pets are happy. Now the tiger version looks a little more complicated and more appealing than the panda. BUT. Both I would get…if I had money to burn and it was available in the USA.

I blame Twilight.. Teen Werewolves in San Antonio high schools
Wednesday, May 26th, 2010 | Weird | 2 Comments

Yes, that is a wolf tail attached to that kid’s pants.
Ah being a teenager. The high school clicks. You got the preps, nerds, goths, kids who think they are vampires and now kids who run in wolf packs.
I want to lean to the left and blame Twilight. Even though I know Werewolves have been popular as long as Vampires have. Werewolves have always gotten the short stick however.
And to think- MTV plans to make a Teen Wolf TV Series. This will introduce the concept of a werewolf in high school to a generation who probably doesn’t even know who Michael J Fox is.

| T-Virus (Resident Evil Shot)
Ingredients: Directions: Wind a blue Twizzler around a tall double shot glass. It should stick to the sides of the glass. Pour in the silver rum and top with the Everclear. Drink, then eat the Twizzler for a sweet and tangy aftertaste. You will have to fish out the Twizzler with your finger after you drink, as it will still be stuck to the side of the shot glass. |
Metroid (Metroid Cocktail)
Ingredients: 1/2 shot Bacardi Big Apple Rum Directions: Shake the two rums and Kiwi Strawberry Minute Maid and pour into a lowball glass. Add the Sprite for a bit of flavor and carbonation. Drop in three strawberries as a garnish. If you choose, you can use your ice beam freezer to cool the alcohol before you make the drink. |
What do you get when you mix video games and a love of alcohol? Mixed video game drinks and specialty shots. Other drinks that stand out (to me anyway) would be Big-Bang Blast (Mega Man cocktail), Kungaloosh (World of Warcraft) and Golden Chocobo (Final Fantasy Cocktail) – all over at The Drunken Moogle.
CAT5, data and steel cables made into art?
Wednesday, April 28th, 2010 | Weird | No Comments

Connected created by Kasey McMahon using steel, CAT5 and other data cables. This is a life size ‘self portrait’.
The feet look a little funny, but seeing as I have never constructed a life sized anything out of cables- I shouldn’t be to much of a critic.
It makes you think about how bound by technology we all are.

Yes, I know that is Amelia the Cafe World Chef from that other annoyingly addictive Facebook game. But look at her and the gnome from World of Warcraft and tell me you don’t see it?
I take pride in knowing my virtual pet on Facebook now has a gnome slave to cook for him.
